Notre Dame promotes physical health in a number of ways. The school has recently completed a significant new build programme, which has included a new Sports Hall and fitness suite. As part of the taught curriculum, every student receives two hours of PE per week and issues concerning physical health are also covered in PSHE and Science. There is a wide ranging extra-curricular timetable offering a variety of activities, including external coaching in activities such as Dance, Karitsu, Aerobics and Hockey.
Beyond this, physical health is promoted via the School Travel Plan with, for example, an increase in the number of cycle lockers available in school. It is also highlighted through the requirement for an active element being evident in the activities for the school’s annual Enrichment Week.
Future plans include the development of the school grounds to incorporate orienteering trails, mountain biking courses and low level fitness equipment that can be used throughout the school day.
