Parks House: where everyone has a seat.
Our House is named after Rosa Parks, a strong independent woman who sat down for what she believed in. Because of this woman, there was a shift in equal rights, giving everyone, no matter the race, a chance to have a voice. Her life, and her brave actions, remind each and every one of us of our personal responsibilities to stand up for what is right.
Rosa Parks’ name became permanently etched in history on December 1, 1955, when she was arrested for refusing to give up her seat to a white passenger on a bus in Montgomery, Alabama, USA. In most schools, children are taught that she sat down because her feet were tired; however, she said, ‘The only tired I was, was tired of giving in.’
As a House we are a tight knit community that work together to bring about awareness of Rosa around the school. We are also proud of our achievements, including fundraising for charities, some that have benefited have been a Macmillan Coffee morning, Children in Need, CAFOD Walk/Run for Women and Shekinah Mission, House points (as a house we work together to earn house points for various different achievements; inter- house competitions, pride in work, rising to challenges, etc.) and supporting and caring for each other, not just in our house but every member of the school.
We also work hard for equal rights and justice. As Rosa Parks once said:
‘As long as there is unemployment, war, crime and all things that go to the infliction of man’s inhumanity to man, regardless – there is much to be done and people need to work together.’
